Paul Agius - Australia
Paul is part of the wave of fresh new talent currently emerging in the Melbourne underground dance music scene. Wanting to both make a significant contribution to the emerging Melbourne scene and fill a musical and creative void that had become apparent, Paul along with brother Dave teamed up to promote their own night, Likuid. In its infancy (May 2002) the night ran as a popular weekly event but soon evolved into an established underground monthly party with an expanded dj lineup - well credentialed dj€™s Lance Harrison and Luke Moylan joined the Likuid crew in 2003. The party has gained the respect from regular party punters and respected dj€™s alike, both locally and internationally. Paul's long had a special fascination for electronic dance music cutting across all genres and sub-genre€™s, and has developed an awareness of quality sounds and grooves. Like many of his peers, during the late 80s and early 90s, most of his time (and money) was spent listening to indie tunes coming out of the both burgeoning hip hop scenes Stateside and, across the other side of the Atlantic, the Manchester and electronic pop music scenes in the UK. Seminal artists, crews and producers such as Public Enemy, Afrika Bambaataa, Arthur Baker, Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, NWA, New Order, Cabaret Voltaire, 808 State, Stone Roses, Trevor Horn, and Pop Will Eat Itself were, amongst others, influential during this time. If you had to describe this DJs sound today, the words varied and diverse come to mind. Like many of his peers, Paul lists Melbourne€™s most infamous underground night, Sunny and the sounds of its dj's, Gab Oliver, Ozzy LA, Gavin Keitel and Phil K as major influences. Internationally, dj's like Eddie Richards, Terry Francis, Tyler Stadius, Craig Richards and, more recently, minimal-tech inspired producers such as Steve Bug, Martinez, Misc. and Anders Trentmoller have also had a hand in shaping Pauls sound. As well as promoting his own night, Pauls played several clubs/parties around Melbourne and has played along side, supported and promoted established and respected overseas and local artists such as Tyler Stadius (CAN), Asad Rizvi (UK), Chris Lum (USA), Kaskade (USA), Gavin Keitel, Jeff Tyler, Mike Callander, Damian Laird and Gavin Martin. Paul has played at some of Melbournes better known clubs/parties, including Platform One (formerly Passion nightclub), Two Floors Up (formerly Cartel), Private Function, Altitude, Tilt, Pure, Mi Casa Es Tu Casa, Darkbeat, Brown Alley, E55, Loop, Phonographed and Phreakin NYE @ South Atlantic Warf.
